Suffixes s, ed, less and ing


Suffix ing: Means something is happening right now
Hitting

Suffix less: Means without
Hatless

Suffix ed: Means something has already happened
Jumped 

Suffix ed can have three sounds: d, t, ed
Suffix ed can only say ed when the last letter of the root word is letter d or the letter t.
Examples: belted  and padded
Suffix ed will sound like d or t at all other times.

When you have a word with a vowel and then a consonant you double the last consonant before adding a suffix with a vowel
Example: 
     pad    padded   
hit     hitting
